A thoroughly 21st-century take on Charlotte Brontë

Posted on September 4, 2018

Charlotte Brontë Revisited, by young academic Sophie Franklin, shows clearly why the classic English novelist is still as relevant today as she’s ever been.

Far from the typical stuffy writing of textbooks, Charlotte Brontë Revisited is a celebration of all things Charlotte. Updated for 2018 and published on 14 September, it’s the “sister” title to Claire O’Callaghan’s Emily Brontë Reappraised, which came out earlier this year.

Sophie Franklin has a passion for her subject and wanted to write a fun and accessible book about her favourite author; one that would encourage today’s readers – especially young people – to love Charlotte’s books.

And so Sophie looks at Charlotte through 21st-century eyes, and compares her writing with modern trends in reading.

Discover Charlotte’s private world of convention, rebellion and imagination, and how they shaped her life, writing and obsessions – including the paranormal, nature, feminism and politics.

Charlotte Brontë Revisited brings the novelist alive for modern audiences, and gives us a chance to get to know the real Charlotte.
