Celebrating International Women’s Day 2023

Posted on March 8, 2023

Every year to mark International Women’s Day we pause to celebrate our women writers. We are privileged to publish their outstanding non-fiction and novels. There is still such a gender disparity in who is published, especially in non-fiction, yet the majority of books are bought and read by women. It’s frustrating that this imbalance is still a thing – but we can only change our own corner of the book world and hope that readers will find the places where women writers thrive.

In the year since last IWD and in the coming few months we’re releasing several new titles by women, including some who are new to our list – such as Linda Cracknell and Julia Rampen, plus anthologies introduced by Kathryn Aalto, Kirsty Logan and Karen Lloyd – and people we’ve been working with for longer, including Olga WojtasSue Lawrence and Catherine Czerkawska. And we’re proud to mention that Catherine Simpson’s audiobook of One Body is featured in next month’s World Book Night.

Linda Cracknell’s book is Writing Landscape, one of two books that herald a new series for us, In the Moment. Karen Lloyd’s latest is a wonderful anthology of writing on the nature and landscapes of the north of England: North Country. Julia Rampen is the most recent winner of the NorthBound Book Award for her debut novel, The Bay.

Whatever your reading taste, our women authors have got you covered. Please support them by buying and/or reviewing one of their books today.
