Announcing Graeme Macrae Burnet’s new novel: The Accident on the A35
Posted on April 18, 2017
Graeme Macrae Burnet – author of the Man Booker Prize shortlisted His Bloody Project – returns with The Accident on the A35, the sequel to his cult debut novel The Disappearance of Adèle Bedeau.
Published on 26 October 2017, The Accident on the A35 is a psychological thriller that revisits the small French town of Saint-Louis, and the diffident Inspector Georges Gorski, who appeared in the Simenon-influenced The Disappearance of Adèle Bedeau (Contraband, 2014).
Publisher Sara Hunt said: “His Bloody Project was, of course, a huge success and it’s testament to Graeme’s talent that he’s followed it up with a very impressive sequel to Adèle Bedeau.
“The Accident on the A35 is set in a very different world to His Bloody Project, but it also is offbeat, clever, literary fiction that explores the foibles and complexities of its main characters. It’s very much a novel that plays to the strengths that has made Graeme’s writing so popular.”
The blurb for The Accident on the A35 is as follows:
There does not appear to be anything remarkable about the fatal car crash on the A35. But one question dogs Inspector Georges Gorski: where has the victim, an outwardly austere lawyer, been on the night of his death?
The troubled Gorski finds himself drawn into a mystery that takes him behind the respectable veneer of the sleepy French backwater of Saint-Louis.
Graeme Macrae Burnet returns with a literary mystery that will beguile fans of His Bloody Project and The Disappearance of Adèle Bedeau. Darkly humorous, subtle and sophisticated, The Accident on the A35 burrows deep into the psyches of its characters and explores the forgotten corners of small-town life.
His Bloody Project has sold in excess of 120,000 copies in the UK alone, and has been published around the world. As well as the shortlisting for the Man Booker Prize, it won the Saltire Society Fiction Book of the Year Award, and it has been shortlisted for an LA Times Book Prize (Mystery/Thriller category) – winners will be announced on Friday 21 April at special event taking place at the University of Southern California.
