From northern lights to summer rains, ditches bright with forget-me-nots to mossy peat, house martins to sea eagles, hazel catkins to autumn crab apples, Landscapes of Home celebrates a year of close attention to the natural world.
Rooted in five acres of croft in Lochaber, in the heart of the Highlands, these intimate observations follow the landscape month by month as weather, wildlife and seasons transform it. Familiar paths and everyday encounters reveal themselves anew: rowans blaze into colour, birds return, plants flower, and even the smallest changes become worth noticing.
Written with warmth, curiosity and an ecologist’s eye, Landscapes of Home asks what we discover when we limit our horizons and look more closely at what is already around us. In an age of restless movement and ecological uncertainty, it is an invitation to slow down, pay attention, and learn to know and love a place through its seasons.
