Saraband move to Macmillan Distribution

Posted on July 1, 2025

As many of you know, our long-time distributor Grantham Book Services has closed its doors, and all our books have moved to a new home at Macmillan Distribution.

Macmillan Publishers group of companies has a rich history in the book industry, which spans almost 200 years and began in 1843 with brothers Daniel and Alexander Macmillan opening their first bookshop at 57 Aldersgate Street, London. At that time, Daniel Macmillan wrote to a friend and advisor to say: “I thought it worthwhile to plant a seed”. Over the decades, they have published notable authors including Charles Kingsley, Christina Rossetti, Lewis Carroll and Rudyard Kipling. Today Macmillan offers a distribution service to third-party publishers, and we will be joining these.

Macmillan say that their mission is “to deliver excellent service to our publishers and customers by creating an environment where everyone can fulfil their potential and be their best.”

They are committed to “promoting a culture of involved responsibility regarding the environmental impacts of our business. We encourage our employees and stakeholders to create better habits and consider the impact of the decisions they make in the workplace.” Their sustainability team regularly reviews efficiencies relating to environmental impact, from lighting to packaging and overall waste. They are also working on recycling projects and partnerships with local sustainability efforts.

  • MDL’s warehouse uses 100% renewable electricity, and as part of Macmillan Publishers global operations, has been carbon neutral since 2017 (Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions). In April 2024, the warehouse installed 856 solar panels resulting in 7.5 tonnes of COemissions being saved in just one month – enough to power an average house for 293 days. MDL is a member of the BIC Green Supply Chain Committee, which is part of the international Green Book Supply Chain Alliance.  They continue to focus on developing and promoting industry standards and best practice in order to help organisations become more sustainable.
