When twelve-year-old Sherrie-Lee witnesses a failed bank robbery in her neglected town, she seizes an opportunity to claim a new identity for herself. Escaping her troubled home life, she tries out a new name and invents stories and personas to cover her tracks.

Sherrie-Lee finds both possibility and loneliness in this new freedom, as well as an unusual friendship which she nurtures. But harsh realities close in, and she’s plagued with foreboding – from her vulnerable brother at home to the climate crisis. While she dreams of a kinder world, it won’t be long before her own deceits start catching up with her.

This arresting debut challenges assumptions and captures the powerless yearning of adolescence with a voice that is fresh, magnetic and often funny – one that pulls you in and won’t let go.

Fossils is out now.

What if you knew from the beginning how your relationship was going to end?

In this stunning and emotional memoir, @jillhopper1 recalls her relationship with Arif, who was told he had only a few months to live soon after they had begun dating.

This is a tender account of what it is to live, and love, fully.

One of the things we love most about @graememacraeburnet's writing is his ability to blend fact with fiction 📖

Whether it's using locations that you can actually visit as the backdrops for his stories, or using characters that really existed at some point in history, Graeme's books will have you asking yourself "Wait, is this a true story?" 🤔

Ainger Road in Primrose Hill is a location pivotal to the story in Case Study alongside surrounding areas in Primrose Hill. Here's some photographs from when our Publishing Manager took a visit to the area 😍

Ahead of Mother’s Day in the USA we’d like to share some titles we think mothers on both sides of the Atlantic would love:

-	The Jewel by Catherine Czerkawska

Jean Armour’s marriage to Robert Burns was extraordinary: passionate, tempestuous and enduring against all odds. How she lived with, and frequently without, her famous husband is surely Scotland's greatest love story.

-	The Curiosity Cabinet by Catherine Czerkawska

A novel for fans of Outlander. A modern love story in the Scottish islands runs parallel with the darker 18th-century tale of Henrietta Dalrymple, kidnapped by Manus McNeill and held against her will.

-	The Unreliable Death of Lady Grange by Sue Lawrence

A thrilling historical novel based on the extraordinary true story of Lady Grange, who was kidnapped on the orders of her powerful husband and exiled to a remote island beyond the Outer Hebrides.

-	The Walrus Mutterer by Mandy Haggith

In The Walrus Mutterer, Mandy Haggith takes us back to prehistoric times and opens the way for an intergenerational saga ranging from the Sub-Arctic to the Mediterranean.

Books coming soon to the USA and Canada:

-	The Mahogany Pod by Jill Hopper

A moving portrayal of a joyful love affair that was cut short by a terminal illness after just one exhilarating year – and an inspirational account of vulnerability, reconciliation and learning to live fully after loss.

-	Shocked Earth by Saskia Goldschmdit

An exploration of the dangers of industrial gas extraction and changing farming methods, and what it means to have your identity intensely entwined with your place of birth, in this compelling family saga.

Chris Dolan, current Honorary President of the festival, knows Graeme's writing well and has interviewed him on many occasions. On Friday Chris will be asking Graeme all about Case Study: the inspiration behind it, the intriguing characters, the setting, and just exactly how Graeme sets up his fiction to feel so very real. The perfect way to set up a great weekend of literature.

See you there 😉

Hosted by the Royal Horticultural Society, National Gardening Week is a chance to "discover and celebrate the joy of gardening", admire your local green spaces, and connect with nature, as well as each other.

For the health of the planet and for our own well-being, we know how important green spaces are, locally and globally. At a time when it has never been more important to look after the earth, we love that the RHS are highlighting the importance of gardening.

About The Garden Cure:

Through a lifetime’s experience of award-winning work in community gardens and in mental health care and training, Cameron shows us how tending green spaces can bring tremendous benefits to mental health.

Using the garden’s annual cycle, she reveals how stages of the growing year can act as a powerful metaphor and even mirror healing mechanisms that can help in times of distress, anxiety or depression. By exploring practices used in therapeutic and community garden settings we learn techniques that can be applied whatever your circumstances.

The Garden Cure is full of ideas and tools that will help support your own and others’ physical and mental well-being, especially when life is challenging. How, in other words, gardening helps us all grow and thrive.

In Fossils, twelve-year-old Sherrie-Lee feels the anxiety induced by the state of the Earth’s climate and a sense of foreboding plagues the newfound freedom she has just discovered 🌱

“You have stolen my dreams and my childhood with your empty words. And yet I’m one of the lucky ones. People are suffering. People are dying. Entire ecosystems are collapsing. We are in the beginning of a mass extinction, and all you can talk about is money and fairy tales of eternal economic growth. How dare you!” - @gretathunberg

These words from climate activist Greta Thunberg resonate deeply with the themes of Alison Armstrong’s Fossils. We’re sure that if Greta was raised in the same northern town as Sherrie-Lee that they’d be great friends 🌿

Like Greta and Sherrie-Lee, we can all dream of a kinder, healthier future for our planet this #EarthDay 🌍

Congratulations to @stan.dare on the publication of Ring of Stone Circles! 🪨

Author Stan L Abbott has just released a book exploring our Neolithic past through the history, legends and lore of Cumbria’s prolific array of standing stones.

Stan visited more than 30 ancient monument sites, some of them comparable in size, age and importance to #Stonehenge – and has revealed fascinating details about the lives of our ancient forebears in his book.

For example, there was a huge ceremonial avenue of stones at Shap, which was largely removed by farmers and builders in the 18th century. And the extensive Long Meg Stone Circle, near Penrith, may be more than 5,500 years old, possibly older even than the Ring of Brodgar and Stones of Stenness in Orkney, making it among the oldest such examples in Britain.

Cover art by linocut artist @deniseburdenart - Denise has also created several specially commissioned illustrations for the book's interior.
