Jim Crumley’s The Nature of Autumn has been chosen as one of the final books to be in the running for the Richard Jefferies Society and White Horse Bookshop Literary Prize 2017.
The £1,000 prize is awarded to the most outstanding nature writing published in the previous year, and for writing that is consistent with the work of Richard Jefferies (1848-1887), who wrote prolifically about the natural history, rural life and agriculture of late-Victorian England.
Along with The Nature of Autumn, other titles shortlisted include: The Running Hare, by John Lewis-Stempel; Six Facets of Light, by Ann Wroe; Walking Through Spring, by Graham Hoyland; and The Wood for the Trees, by Richard Fortey.
The winner of the prize will be chosen at the Richard Jefferies Executive Council Meeting on 13 May.
