America’s Heritage: The States of the Union
Since 1959, when Hawaii joined the Union, the United States of America has comprised fifty states. Some of these look out over the ocean, while others are landlocked. Some are crowded, while others are sparsely populated. But all fifty states, whatever their differences, are united as a nation, and all proudly fly the Stars and Stripes and celebrate the shared values that the flag represents: equality, democracy, and liberty.
